Resigned not to profess any resolutions for the new year this time around? Why not resolve to have more sex? If you’re anything like me, you never need more reasons to have sex or more of it… there are plenty! Well, heck. Let’s hear a few more! The Journal of Sexual Medicine is soon to publish yet more research on the benefits of having sex. Read on…

I’ve chronicled many of the mental, emotional, and physical benefits of having sex here in past blog entries before. Yet, CNN’s “New Year’s Resolution: Have More Sex” introduces a few new benefits I wasn’t already aware of. Namely, that sexually active women experience fewer menopause symptoms. Nice! That’s something to really look forward to.

Sex regulars have healthier hearts, live longer, and have a better chance of fighting off certain cancers. Sexually active men have healthier sperm. Being sexually active also offers lower blood pressure, lower levels of stress, healthier bodies overall, and even reduction in pain symptoms.

The research points out that it’s good ol’ penile-vaginal sex that reaps the most rewards, so get to it! As the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Sexual Medicine himself, Dr. Irwin Goldstein, claims “you can’t help but say, ‘Holy God! Sexual activity is a very important thing to do. Human beings were really meant to do this.”
