The Sociology of Porn

What better way to start off a "what's happenin' in the world of sex?" blog than a little commentary, backed up by scientific research, about the real impact of that which we love to term "pornography" on society? Especially on the site of an author of erotica!

By visiting this site, you are at least curious about erotica in some form. And you acknowledge that sex is a phenomenon that has major influence in and on the world. In fact, you're not even supposed to be here, in this "hang-up free zone" unless you agreed to all my carefully plotted terms on the intro page. So, welcome! And let's get down to talking about sex...

Everyone has an opinion on what's erotica as opposed to pornography. And those that dislike admitting that sex has any purpose other than direct reproduction like to lump the two together and label it all "bad." But none of that matters when we're discussing the effects of sexually arousing material and its availability on society, criminal actions, psychology, and general well being.

This isn't the day for opinions. For now, if you're interested in the research that's been conducted by reputable resources that should be used in rightfully forming public policy and law regarding the availability or censorship of such materials, read Pornography Studies: The Social Effects of Porn.

It's a collection of essays, studies, and other information gathered from a variety of sources about the discovered effects porn has on all of us. The link is found on a site called Solomon's Refuge. And you know...like most things our governments like to regulate dictator-style, there's quite a case for making such natural indulgence more available, legally accepted, and maybe even encouraged.

If you've been curious about the facts, now they're available.
