The Science of Beautiful, Bouncing Breasts

"The big question is why we know so little about the movement of breasts," one female doctor points out with much concern. Of course, there are those of us, men and women alike, who'd argue that we know a great deal... we've had personal experience or an erotic voyeur's knowledge accruing for years.

But the fact of the matter is that you just don't see research into the gorgeous, fascinating, and awe-inspiring movements of women's breasts often. And wouldn't we love to read just that sort of scientific report? In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the currently running annual Blogger Boobie-Thon, let's talk boobie bouncing.

Bouncing for Breast Cancer: join in the fun!

I have erotica author Rod Harden to thank for referring me (and the rest of those belonging to the Erotica Reader and Writers Association's parlor group message list) to the quite titillating and definitely stimulating latest research findings regarding that unique and wonderful bounce of breasts. I don't think we could ever get bored with this kind of science talk.

And we have Dr. Joanna Scurr for the much needed, boob-focused research we now get to indulge in. "Bouncing Breasts Spark New Bra Challenge" can be found at AlphaGalileo, the "world's leading resource for European research news." Are there images of bouncing breasts dancing in your head already? They are in mine...

Dr. Scurr's diligent research has found that "breasts move far more than ordinary bras are designed to cope with." Don't I know it! I have this very vivid memory of running through the Seattle international airport a few years ago in a black lace bra that did not hold my then G-cup breasts longer than for a few strides. Thank goodness for wearing a shirt over the bra, but even breasts outed from their bra beneath their shirt is not at all a good look.

Dr. Scurr confirms that breasts move in multiple ways, not just that old up-and-down motion that we're all so fond of. Breasts also bounce in side to side and in and out motions. Yes, they do!! When will my favorite bra manufacturers realize that - having real breasts - I have little choice within all the styles available in any catalog that even dares to offer cup sizes above a mere D. Because my breasts do not stay in one place, pointing in one direction, holding themselves up all day long! They need some fucking support!

But anyway....

Dr. Scurr's study finds that 50% of women experience breast pain while excercising. And that breasts move as much during a slow jog as while all-out sprinting! Pain during exercise is also just as bad for a woman with a smaller cup size as those with larger cup sizes.

So, Scurr is working with bra manufacturers to finally offer the all encompassing kind of support we women really need... for working out and daily life. Thank goodness! She notes that sports science has been dominated by men, leaving the study of a female athletes added bouncing breast afflication to be considered almost laughable.

Scurr spent two years studying women of varying breast sizes from cup size A to JJ. And she's now building a breast biomechanics database destined to be the largest of its kind ever created.

Women, we'll now have better clinical support, bra design, and fundamental breast health to look forward to. Woo hoo!

Now, in honor of breasts and better breast health, let's enjoy some visualization. Check out this cool, breast-bouncing link I found, thanks to a referral from BoingBoing. Shock Absorber, UK manufacturer of sports bras, offers an interactive flash demonstration online illustrating the bounce resulting from your chosen input of breast size, level of activity, and amount of breast support.

Nothing makes a boobie look better than bouncing on a trampoline. I think the inventor of it had that in mind when he invented it.
