Playgirl Reveals the Sexier Side of Silly

I received my April subscription issue of Playgirl magazine just a couple days ago. I love the conspicuous black plastic that seals in the controversial contents and keeps out prying eyes. It makes me feel like I'm awarded with something as naughty as the dirtiest mens' adult magazine. I always rip open the wrapping as soon as the mag arrives...if my lover doesn't get to it first.

You see, my partner has this sometimes annoying, but very cute, need for getting to all the household mail first. He doesn't get nearly as much mail as I do; I'm the one that places all the online orders and gets the checks for my freelance work in the mail. He's the type that wonders why there's never a new email message in his inbox despite rarely sending out a single one to his worldwide friends himself. So, a non-spoken agreement has been reached. He takes more pleasure in sorting through the mail each day, so I let him open it all first, no matter whom it's addressed to.

That includes my Playgirl magazine. Yes, he's the first to view its cover and first to thumb through the pages if I don't manage to get ahold of it first. And I admit that I get real pleasure from seeing my male partner browse through my porn-for-women magazine. It makes me adore him all the more for his open mind, lack of stereotypical male homophobia or fear of the view of another cock, and his interest in the topics and themes that interest me. That provides us all the more to talk about and enjoy together.

And when we find ourselves in a compromising position that happens to remind me of someone I saw or something I read in my Playgirl, I can mention it and know my lover also knows exactly what I'm referring to... like when I was going down on my lover just before bedtime the other night and we were both able to draw the connection to our favorite article in this month's issue: "Lunch Cocks." Mmmm...

This month's Playgirl revolves around the theme of comedy. From intimate interviews (and photos!) of some of the hottest comedians found on stage to sexy articles and stories a bit more on the silly side, the April issue is jam-packed with funny stuff. Funny, sexy stuff, that is.

I have to give a big pat on the back to the Playgirl editorial staff for pulling this one off. As one who can talk, chat, laugh, and goof around during sex when in the mood without missing a beat or ever losing the level of my arousal, I can appreciate the silly side of sex. Silliness is practically a necessity in a healthy relationship. It's our connection to the element of childish play that keeps sex as interesting, appealing, and varied as it is. (96% of Playgirl readers consider a sense of humor to be a turn-on....imagine that!) Yet, when you're photographing or writing about sex, it's a lot trickier to make it funny while retaining the erotic aspect. Yet, Playgirl manages just that.

This Month's Playgirl Prize Giveaway: Go Finger: Drinking & Stripping party game from RUFF-Doggie Styles. Pick up an issue to enter and win!

This month's issue features a long list of saucy and sassy writers that inject a little humor into everything they do. You'll laugh, maybe cry, and definitely be intrigued in that sexy kind of way. They make the issue chock-full of surprises, adding a completely new element to your monthly dose of printed porn.

This issue profiles and offers comedic commentary from sexy comedians of all types: Aziz Ansari from underground NYC, Kristina Wong on sex advice, Todd Barry on the reality of comedians' one-night stands, Kimber Pflaum on blowjobs, Jayson Cross nearly naked on stage, Brendon Small hailing from Cartoon Network, DC Benny on his many roles, Mike Birbiglia from Massachusetts, Craig Baldo from New Jersey, standup guy Russ Meneve, and.....well, I'm out of breath! The comedians are revealed in raw form (how else would we have it?) and posing for provocative Playgirl-style pics in their own original visions.

The reviews section of the mag lists fantastic collections of humorous music, celebrity rumors, buzzworthy sites, books, and DVDs. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed. I love being keyed into what's hot and sexy online in the monthly Buzzworthy Sites list, only to find the "sexy" was left out of this issue and replaced with the funny. Ah, well, there's always next issue.

The Sexual Health column is the most stern and un-funny in the entire issue. No, it doesn't ruin the theme of this month's mag; it proves that Playgirl is always serious about women's health and the pressing issues that face us, no matter the mag's general theme. That's why we like our Playgirl. No matter what, we women want to be taken seriously. And "Custom Coochie" does just that by informing us of what the current trend in cosmetic surgery of female genitalia is all about. From labiaplasty to vaginoplasty, it's all covered with why, how, what if, and warnings. I like the article's approach to the topic. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we should recognize that every pussy is as different as every face. They're all natural and created right for us. Yet, when needed or wanted, surgery is available, and we should have access to the facts about it.

In this issue, we're warned against Match.com's 90-day "How to Find the Right Person" program, provided with a fun quiz for determine "how fucking awesome" we are at awesome fucking, and the Dress Yourself section that's usually my most hated includes funny undies and t-shirts of all sorts to include something for the humorist in all of us. Why the hot T's from Tara's Naughty Shop aren't included, I'll never figure out, but maybe I can make Playgirl aware of them in the near future. In the recommended sex toys section, everything's incredibly funny... yet useful. And you'll find a sexy man sporting his erect cock and a fully-feathered cock's head mask. Yeah...it works somehow.

My partner's and my favorite article of all? "Lunch Cocks" by Kimber Pflaum. Really, I'm just jealous that I didn't think of the article idea first! And it's already spawned many related sex-periments and story ideas for me to conduct in the future, especially considering I have my own man-sized guinea pig at hand. In the article, Kimber submits her willing husband to a 30-day diet of the strictest sort, all in the name of science and discovering, once and for all, just how his semen is affected by what he eats. Now, that's information we all can use!

When you're hungry for naked, this issue has you fed quite aptly. Food comes into play in a guy-girl pictorial, an Austrian hunks oozes sex on a shag carpet, and even the Real Men in the amateur photo section show their sillier sides. Last but not least: the Penis Portraits. Forget the men; we get giant, large-scale images of the part we're always drawn to: the cocks. This time, the cocks take on identities of their own with accessories that tickle our funny bones while drawing our insatiable appetites right to the erect heads of the main attraction. You've gotta check them out!

What's next? The party issue! I'm already excited. We'll get VIP passes to behind-the-scenes party scenes and private soirees, Playgirl's own monthly launch parties, and finally, we get to vote for the Real Man of the Month!

sooo . . . THAT'S what it is today: "black plastic" to seal the magazines and keep the secrets . . . back in the day . . . i remember going out to the "record store" (yes . .they actually sold "records" in Record Stores once upon a time) . . .and looking for the then latest John Lennon / Yoko Ono contribution: "Two Virgins". Rolling Stone Magazine had given a cover story to the "album cover": John and Yoko naked . . front of album cover was "frontal view" and back of album cover was "rear view" pictures of the two virgins in question . . . long before Madonna's "Like A Virgin", John and Yoko claimed that re-incarnation. i in the store i found it! there it was: John and Yoko - "Two Virgins" -- in plain brown wrapper! (as a favor to help fans recognize the artists they did provide the curtesy of tutting two holes in the wrapper to expose the faces of John and of Yoko -- two small oval holes in a total plain brown wrapper! funny though . . once the wrapper was removed . .there was absolutely nothing erotic nor pornographic about the two photos, front nor back. in fact they were quite drab and uninspiring. . . as was the content of the album itself. but it had SYMBOLIC value! the emergence of the artist into his new incarnation . . into his new birth from John Winston Lennon into John Ono Lennon! neat huh? (so, "Hustler" and "Hershey Bars" now BOTH come in plain brown wrappers . . . odd no?) :)

Wow! That sounds like quite the experience..buying an album with a cover that merited plain wrapping! We can only hope that the world continues to change in that direction (a little natural nudity evolving and becoming more widely accepted), not the opposite direction that seems so much more popular these days.
