Early voting... what a beautiful thing. I never even knew it was a possibility until my sample ballot and instruction packet arrived in the mail. I was so excited when I discovered early voting would begin immediately and continue through the end of this month and there would be a polling place just down the street from my home. You haven't heard me talk politics here... I haven't even mentioned who I intended to vote for in the 2008 US election. I try to reserve this site and blog for those sex, adult, and relationship-themed topics. But as we all know and sometimes fear, politics do impact those personal aspects of our lives... especially now. This year's US presidential election, as in all US elections, affects our rights and freedoms to be, do, experiment, experience, relate together, and live how we individually see fit for ourselves. There couldn't possibly be a more important reason to get your ass out the door and VOTE.
Heck, you don't even have to get your ass out the door to do it. And you don't even have to wait until election day and stand in those long, long lines with all the other last-minute voters. Thanks to my handy little instruction booklet, I know you can vote early for the next two weeks AND you still have time to submit a handwritten letter requesting to vote by mail if you so prefer. It's way too easy.
Hell, go vote for the high itself! Take it from me... It FEELS GOOD to vote. I did it yesterday, and now I just feel damn proud of myself. I feel more hopeful. I feel more encouraged. I know I at least did something to prompt positive change and promote a more positive evolution of this country. I did something for myself, my family, my friends, my compatriots, and all those undeniably impacted by US politics around the globe.
I don't know if "the system works" as folks like to claim or disclaim this time of year. I don't even know if my particular vote will actually and specifically sway the outcome of the election in the direction I want it to go. BUT... I know I tried. I've done what I can. And that's all and everything that matters. And I wouldn't hesitate to share with you which presidential candidate I voted for at the Nevada state polls just yesterday: Barack Obama.
