Forcing You to Get Over Your Body Shyness

You have to see it to believe it. You think current airport security measures are invasive, annoying, and a downright infringement of your personal rights and privacy. Well, now they actually are. Remember those X-ray glasses you wished you had as a kid? They're now a reality, and they're going to be used in an airport near you.

The New York Times on the web dishes the amazing truth of technology besting super-human powers in "Airport Screeners Could See X-rated X-rays" by Joe Sharkey. Leave it to the US Homeland Security Department to first believe the technology was a possibility, then spend tax payers' bucks to do the research, and ultimately come up with an advanced x-ray machine that will allow security guards to see right through your clothing with extreme precision...right down to your naughty bits.

The machines will be installed and tested in airports as soon as this year. If you hear mention of or see the "backscatter" device, be prepared to check your bags along with the cover of your clothes and your shyness at the entry way. According to a privacy advocate and technology consultant, "you'll see basically everything. It shows nipples. It shows the clear outline of genitals." That's right, ladies and gentlemen, why worry that the old man patting you down is giving you extra pats in extra places when all he has to do is have you walk through the machine for a regular peep show?

As an aside, did you notice how ugly that man's bum is above? Egad. Why can't they show a woman as an example?

The current equipment in airports has proven unreliable when searching for hidden weapons. And you all have been complaining about the more intrusive pat downs that were the standard, and the procedure has since been altered. So, how else can we detect a greater majority of harmful devices intended to injure or kill passengers and others? There isn't even a radiation concern because the new machine's fields are set to avoid penetrating the skin. They just stop visibility after all your clothes have been visually removed.

Maybe this will mean that I won't get stopped at every checkpoint in an airport now for "random" bag searches. The guys can get their kicks by looking directly at all of my feminine offerings without having to finger my supply of undies.

And I won't argue about whether security or privacy should have the most priority. I just know there's an additional advantage to your clothes no longer covering you in public. You can't hide anymore. You'll have to get over yourself. Men will "see" what the standard female body really looks like. Men won't walk through the x-ray's reach with an overstuffed ego when they don't have much to display. Everyone will have to set aside their insecurities and walk the exhibitionist's tall walk. Practice sucking in your gut now.

And we were just discussing the beauty of nipples yesterday. How much do you wanna bet that these new machines have a capture and print function?

I'll have to get out my fake penis extension so I don't lose face at the airport, that is unless I am in the States..no penis extension required there ;0).

This story came along in England last year before I left. Naturally it caused the usual "civil liberties" uproar (well, a few letters of complaint to the media). But hey, if someone's going to get a glimpse of you and there's a greater chance of not being killed mid-flight then it's a system that's fine with me.
