Upon receipt of the e-mail, I was so perturbed. Within minutes of submitting
TaraTainton.com to one of the many directories of sites with "mature
content," I was rejected. Hell, I haven't even gotten a rejection notice from an
editor yet!
It was the random, first chosen directory to list my site on so that I can join the ranks of other sites similar to mine...kind of be part of the kinky clan and get to know their sites while they get to know mine. Cunning Linguists is one of the more popular directories, at least among authors of erotic literature and a few other journalistic endeavors. The Cunning Linguists list is "for journalists whose lives involve an element of the erotic." OK, really, that probably applies to most writers out there unless they're complete prudes. I mean, "the erotic" is a part of all of our lives in some way or another. The directory is supposedly "a list for for journalists whose journals often contain erotic or explicit material or are involved in adult or sex related industries, and maintain a sex positive perspective." So, I submitted my site, being a journalistic, definitely involved in the erotic, and most certainly sex-positive. Well, I was rejected, and they never do give you a reason for such decisions. The e-mail response stated that the most common reason for rejection is that "the site was not a personal erotic journal/blog." Then, if mine doesn't qualify, what the hell does? Maybe I should've supplied them with the URL directly to one of my blogs rather than straight to the homepage; maybe "they" don't actually look at the site at all to see where the blog main page is located. Or maybe I should've given the site more time, you know, enough to build up some super hot, dripping with sex journal entries. But I've seen some of the "journals" listed on the site and am surprised to find that a dirty picture someone stole from somewhere else on the internet and pasted up as a day's complete blog entry qualifies as "erotic journalism." Who the hell knows. Still, my first impression was (and since reviewing the other sites in their directory) is that the Cunning Linguists clan are prejudiced against full websites. The other list-toppers seem to be not well-rounded sites but simply blogs and nothing more. If that be the case for the judgment against my site, then EXCUSE ME FOR KNOWING A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT WEB PROGRAMMING and building more than just a blog or offering additional finds for my visitors. Whatever the case may be, I'm really not that upset and have nothing against the so-called cunning folks. In time, I'll submit my site again, probably after this entry is long out of view, I have something more sordid in my journal for their hungry eyes, and I direct them to my blog itself rather than the homepage.
