You've heard the story, the one that radio station DJs here in Sin City have
really been eating up... have even been proud of. The state of Nevada's own
beauty queen was crowned Miss USA. And then, almost as quickly as the tiara
touched her blonde hair, her dirty past reached the pageant officials. And Katie Rees was dethroned.
My own opinion? When are US residents, especially as authority figures, going to recognize sex and our expression of our sexuality as natural? When are they going to recognize that girls just wanna be girls as much as boys have always been given the extra freedom of just being boys? When is the world going to recognize that an individual can be a role model, an upstanding citizen, and a great success in life while that individual may not share all of our own views or habits? Now, I haven't had a nice such as the one Katie participated in while someone's camera snapped, snapped, snapped the evidence all night long. But I know that if I did have that much fun, it wouldn't change who I am, what I'm capable of achieving, or my small role in making the world a better place for all of us. Give Katie a freakin' break. Those incriminating photos only show her expressing herself. Maybe her actions don't exemplify what the pageant powers-that-be may expect the title of Miss USA to represent, but she's still an all-American gal who just wants to have fun. And you've got to respect her for that. This is just another case of discrimination against exposure of the female body itself, proof of the same existing, and our freedom of choice, as women, to do the same with what we're born with. Thanks to Hustler's new June 2007 issue, we can enjoy Katie's fun by viewing the exclusive photos I'm sure the mag paid a hefty price for.
